NIGEL BOONHAM SCULPTURE: St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney

At the consecration of the new Altar on July 19th 2008, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI was the first to sit in the new Cathedra (The Bishop's Chair) designed by Nigel Boonham with carvings of the four Tetramorphs (representing the four Gospel writers), two rows of five roses and the reclining Lamb at the top.

Don Powell is working on the Ox Tetramorph: Don carved the wood sculpture for the Cathedra from the models made by the sculptor, seen in white resin in this photograph. The chair was made and assembled by Coleman and Fairburn of North Rocks, Sydney.

Five similar screens designed by Nigel Boonham enclose the Sanctuary. The architect John Graham in Sydney collaborated with the sculptor to realise the construction of the great screens and Cathedra.
